Every year in second grade we teach a social studies unit where students learn about the different types of communities and community helpers. As we learned in our Content Area course, front loading vocabulary is very important. Using this animoto I will be front loading vocabulary with actual photographs, realia, while also hooking their attention and motivating them for the learning that is soon to come. Enjoy!

Great Job! I def using this with my second graders! Animotos are more motivating than textbooks :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Meg! Hope your students enjoy! Oh yes, way more motivating! The social studies textbooks my students have access to are the exact same ones my classmates and I had in second grade. When you flip to the government lesson President Bush Sr. is highlighted and Russia is still the U.S.S.R. on the world map...YIKES! :)
ReplyDeleteI think children might want to challenge you on the need and want part of this animoto, many will say that they absolutely NEED their x-box! With that said, you did a great job and I love how you connected to the content area literacy class.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kelly! We have that discussion every year about needing a video game lol, the boys always more so than the girls... I figured it would be the most eye catching image I could use. It will definitely start a discussion! I will be sure to "blog" how it goes!
ReplyDeleteGreat animoto! I agree that the students are loving it! This is my third week using it and the students' responses are great! They ask to see it! If you don't mind I would like to use it as well!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to introduce the vocabulary for your community unit. It's a great resource to hold onto especially for those "visual learners."
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to teach comminity and show the different vocab with pictures. I'm sure your kids love it.
ReplyDeleteGreat way to embed that vocabulary with out the old yukky book! I feel like this is more real for them. Kris Kiedel would be proud!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I could use this for my students too. Thanks for some great ideas.
